Treatment Model
Therapists (Shadows) conduct individual and group therapy sessions weekly with each adolescent (YoungWalker). Each YoungWalker’s progress is reviewed weekly by a multidisciplinary team consisting of field and clinical staff. Staffing is supervised by the family therapist or psychologist. A master treatment plan is developed and weekly progress is monitored during the staffings. The treatment plans are individualized around the program curriculum and focus on disturbances of mood, behavior, relationship functioning, personality functioning, and alcohol and substance abuse.

While ANASAZI is a unique approach for the problems that adolescents engage in, the treatment model is effective, traditional, and proven. The YoungWalkers learn by themselves to trust, to grow and to challenge old thoughts and behavior. This is done in the most supportive, safe and unrelenting environment -- nature. Nature demands the best -- it cannot be manipulated, it continues in its scheduled course regardless of the behaviors of the youth. Nature simply requires compliance and wise decisions. The adolescent has no one to blame or challenge but him/her self. The approach by the Shadows and field staff is individualized, supportive and positive. Staff are always near to teach and invite correct decisions.

Treatment at ANASAZI addresses the issues as they relate to the choices the child is making in the relationship with his/her parents. Parent involvement is an essential part of the success of treatment. The program philosophy is based on the principles of agency (ability to make right or wrong choices), a change of heart, unconditional love, and harmonious relationships. No confrontive therapy, manipulation, or behavioral modification techniques are employed.

"The most obvious change I noticed in my daughter right from the beginning was that she wanted to talk to me again. She also wanted to talk to her brothers... I came to see that she really didn't want to do wrong anymore... My daughter and I have both made great strides towards becoming better people, and we are both more happy and content."
